The roots of this therapy lies in ancient Greece and ancient Italy 2500 years ago. It was noticed that the workers in the salt caves had little or no health problems with their respiratory systems and lungs. With this knowledge in mind, the Olympic athletes in Athens devoted adequate attention to improving their sporting performance. When a salt cave in North Rhine-Westphalia was used as a bomb shelter during the Second World War, it was noticed that some asthmatics had fewer attacks and that their lung function markedly improved.
The German doctor Dr. K.H. Spannagel then founded a centre to investigate the effectiveness of this
therapy. The ensuing results are the basis of this therapy, also called halotherapy (the Greek word for salt is “halos”). The microclimate in our salt caves simulates a natural salt cave or salt mine. On the one hand, Himalayan salt is used in the construction - the oldest and purest salt on earth. This ancient salt contains trace elements and no fewer than 84 minerals, including calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, zinc, and iron. The heat in the cabin causes the salt to release these natural minerals. Furthermore, fine salt particles are distributed in the cabin via an evaporator up to a concentration equal to that of a natural salt cave. By inhaling these fine salt crystals, lung function improves, the immune system strengthens, and sneezing, coughing and shortness of breath are relieved. In addition, phlegm is removed from the lungs.
