The Océade water park on the Heysel in Brussels is part of Bruparck, alongside Kinepolis, Mini-Europa and The Village. Its 240,000 visitors every year make it the third biggest attraction in Brussels. Over the past few years, the park has witnessed a huge expansion: its old slides have been replaced with the latest models, extensive redecoration has taken place, and an additional 450,000 euro has been invested in facilities to include new changing rooms and improved filter equipment. However, Océade’s management still has one unfulfilled ambition: to make the park even better. To achieve this goal, all profits are directly reinvested in the park. Saunaland is the latest investment at Océade. The park’s sauna cabins and hammam needed to be replaced, and a decision was soon made to renovate the entire sauna complex at the same time. Océade’s management opted for better materials, extra insulation, and enclosed benches, reducing the energy consumed by the complex. Just like the swimming pool with its pirate theme, the sauna complex was unified under a new concept: Mayan influences reoccur throughout the project. With its renovated Saunaland, Océade has yet another argument up its sleeve to convince people to get an annual pass. Alpha Industries renovated the hammam, the indoor and outdoor saunas and the salt cave in just three weeks. Astoundingly, the entire renovation process was completed in just five weeks time, under the watchful eye of interior architect Monica Schöningh.
